Description
Inspired by the song cycle composed by Franz Schubert, Winterreise visualizes Schubert’s music as a winter journey in 24 scenes from Noyers-sur-Serein, France. Set in 1827 to poems by Wilhelm Müller, the songs evoke the melancholy of the isolated wanderer, who projects internal emotion onto the wintery landscape. The elongated format in pairs evoke the rhythm of footsteps in snow; their size and darkness invite intimacy. Drawn from wanderer’s point of view, the drawings of Winterreise transform Schubert’s soundscape into a visual voyage through Winter’s sadness and silence.
